A wonderful surprise for WERN

At WERN, we are continually reminded of the kindness and generosity that exists within our local communities — and recently, we received some truly wonderful news.

Earlier this year, Kerry Griffiths, Village Agent for, South Gloucestershire WERN responded to a post on a local Facebook community forum asking whether there were any local charities that could benefit from a donation. She briefly mentioned the work WERN does within rural communities, never imagining that anything further would come of it.

A few months later, Kerry received an unexpected message that completely brightened her day.

Helen Scorrer-Skelcher, a local resident from Rangeworthy had nominated WERN for a Bright Futures community donation through her employer, Ayvens, which is owned by Société Générale. As part of the company’s charitable giving programme, employees are invited each quarter to nominate registered charities that make a positive difference within the local communities where they live.

To qualify, organisations must be registered charities and demonstrate meaningful support for their community. WERN met the criteria, and after being entered into the draw alongside other nominated charities, the organisation was randomly selected to receive an incredible donation of £2,500.

What makes this donation especially meaningful is that it all began with a simple social media post and one local resident taking the time to recognise the value of the work being carried out within the community. It is a wonderful reminder that small connections and conversations can lead to significant opportunities and support for local organisations.

This generous contribution will help WERN continue supporting local people, strengthening community connections, and providing practical help and guidance to those who need it most.

On behalf of everyone at WERN, heartfelt thanks go to the resident who nominated the charity, and to Ayvens and Société Générale for supporting community organisations through initiatives like Bright Futures.

Your generosity will make a genuine difference within our local communities.
