Great Flood

Remembering the past – preparing for the future

It’s 50 years since the Great Flood devastated the Chew Valley and Keynsham. Thanks to Awards for All from the Big Lottery, WERN is helping to co-ordinate and publicise the events and activities that communities are organising to remember the past, take stock of what’s been learned and to be as well prepared as possible in future.

We’d also be pleased to hear from you if you have any memories of the flood in July 1968 or its aftermath, if you hold photos, newspaper cuttings, film or any other relevant material that should be listed in a comprehensive archive for everyone’s future reference.

Please keep an eye on our commemorative events page – we aim to publish an up-to-date diary of who’s doing what and when. Do you have any plans or ideas you’d like some help to realise? Please contact

Thank you.
